Heat and cool itself efficiently. We always have 👀 on new HVAC products and our goal is to be able to effortlessly heat and cool your indoor space using solar power alone! You'll get a shore power cord anyway. We also use smart thermostats and other gadgets to make all of this as automatic as possible.
The letters in HALV are very intentional and represent our core values on every project. We design and build tiny homes that will:
- (heirloom) last for a very, very long time, - many have called our existing projects "heirlooms"
- (apocalypse) be as self-sufficient as possible (solar power, water filtration, smart HVAC)
- (luxury) look professional and clean, be functional, comfortable and catered to your (life)style
- (vehicles) most of the times be on wheels (although not required)
- be a reflection of you and your style, not some other assembly line overpriced thing
Your future builder / "engineer" guy: Adam started designing and building small mobile spaces in 2019. Since then, he's developed a passion for creating and iterating on small spaces to work best for the people that are going to use them. He's always calling himself an "engineer" (in quotes) because he actually studied computer science. Adam was inspired by Japanese culture during travels there by their integrity and approach to craftsmanship and intense attention to detail.
Having grown up in the trades within a family of carpenters some of the required skills came naturally, but others took time, education and practice to acquire. Adam takes pride in doing all of the work including overall functional layout, electrical design and wiring, plumbing, installing appliances etc. - himself (aside from making it look good, which his wife Anna does). We believe that the overall end result of the build process is better when there is less time communicating changes between multiple people and more importantly: iteration happens faster. In small spaces the first idea often doesn't work out like you thought, and requires a verion 2 or 3, or 5. At the end of the build process, we bring every project to a local certified RV mechanic for safety inspection of the vehicle and all systems before delivering the vehicle.
Imogene is a 1979 Airstream Excella II that was purchased as a family RV with no real intentions to rennovate much. Long story short, this Airstream is now a fully-equipped technological home on wheels that supports a family of 4 for long-term vacations / remote work.
Imogene was the name of the hardest thing Adam had ever done - which was running 17.2 miles from 8 to 13 thousand feet and back down over the Imogene pass road from Ouray to Telluride Colorado. That was until building this Airstream - so it seemed a fitting name.
